BLACKWELL — The Kay County Fair Board voted tonight to hold a limited version of the Kay County Free Fair if the City of Blackwell grants the board a contract.
Board member Maribeth Ratliff said Blackwell Fire chief Cory Hanebrink attended the meeting and urged the board not to have a fair because of the COVID-19 pandemic and suggested that there is the possibility that the City of Blackwell may not grant the board a contract.
Ratliff said if city the grants the board the contract the fair will be held Sept. 15-19.
“It would be a limited fair,” said Ratliff. “We will accept 4-H, and FFA entries and hold, cattle, hog and sheep shows.” Ratliff said there would be a carnival but that it would not be Ottaway Amusements and that only food vendors will be allowed.
She said the City of Blackwell’s meeting will be held on Aug. 6 and that it is believed the city will discuss the issue then.
