Kansas man killed in accident north of Blackwell

BLACKWELL — A Kansas man was killed today in a one-vehicle accident north of Blackwell.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that Billy Dean Burrow Sr., 71, Hunnewell, Kan. was killed when he departed the northbound lane of U.S. 177 to the left in his 1990 Ford pickup for an unknown reason. The vehicle struck a concrete culvert and Burrow was pinned for one-hour and 28 minutes before being extricated by Blackwell Fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burrow’s passenger, Stanley Cook, 53, Hunnewell, was airlifted from the scene to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., where he was treated and released.

Troopers report the cause of the collision is under investigation and that Burrow was not wearing a seatbelt but his passenger was. The crash occurred at 12:37 p.m. one mile north of Blackwell.
