Court date set in stolen truck case

NEWKIRK — Ponca City resident Adriel Wayne Ferrill, 18, Ponca City, is scheduled for a status docket in Kay County District Court on June 5.

Ferrill is facing charges of knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property and eluding police. Ponca City police report Ferrill was arrested in the 1800 block of S. Waverly on April 21 following a police pursuit. Police report that a citizen reported his truck stolen from the Valero at 320 west Grand around 11:04 p.m.

Officers began looking for the vehicle. Cpl. Daniel Morrison reportedly spotted the vehicle traveling westbound near the intersection of Osage and Otoe. Morrison got behind the vehicle and the driver accelerated and headed southbound on Ash before going westbound on Waverly. The vehicle reportedly stalled and began rolling southbound in the 1800 block of Waverly. The driver, identified as Ferrill exited the vehicle and fled into a field. Morrison pursued him on foot. Ferrill tripped over Johnson grass and was arrested.

In a second case, Ferrill is facing a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. In that case police report Ferrill is accused of making threats with a firearm. Ferrill is free on bond.
