UPDATED: One injured in rollover accident north of Newkirk

NEWKIRK — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports the subject injured in today’s one-vehicle accident north of Newkirk is a 27-year-old male from Ponca City. His name has not been released and is pending the notification of next of kin.

Troopers report the subject is in serious condition at Alliance Health Medical Center in Ponca City. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation. Trooper Tyler Langston reports the driver was using a seatbelt and that the airbag deployed.

One injured in rollover accident north of Newkirk

NEWKIRK — Newkirk Fire Chief Adam Longcrier said fire and ambulance crews responded to a one-vehicle accident today shortly after 12:30 p.m. north of Newkirk on Highway 77, south of Bender Road.

Longcrier said the driver reportedly swerved to miss something, ran off the road, hit a ditch and rolled the vehicle six times.

“The vehicle landed on its wheels,” said Longcrier. “We treated the patient for a head injury, fractured arm and leg injuries. The patient was transported via ambulance to Alliance Health in Ponca City.” Longcrier said Kay County deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers responded and that the highway is closed while OHP investigates.
