Maiming suspect sentenced

NEWKIRK — The man accused of pouring liquid fire drain opener on a woman on west Grand has entered a no contest plea to a felony count of maiming.

Mace Edwin Dickens, 28, is now sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but six months in the county jail suspended.  He was also ordered by Judge David Bandy to write an apology letter to the victim.

Police responded to the scene near Bridgeway on Nov. 22. (see story)

Dickens was arrested six days later.

Authorities report the victim suffered chemical burns on her face and neck.
