NEWKIRK — Newkirk fire units responded to the Newkirk High School parking lot at 12:45 p.m. today for a report of a vehicle on fire.

Chief Adam Longcrier said crews arrived and discovered a pickup with the engine compartment and most of the cab fully engulfed.

“We got the fire knocked down and were able to save the contents in the back sear such as the student’s letter jacket,” said Longcrier.

Longcrier said two vehicles parked next to the pickup suffered damage but crews kept them from burning. The chief said the cause of the blaze is believed to be electrical.
