Plea docket set in DUI caseJanuary 14, 2020 | Courts
NEWKIRK — A plea docket is set for Lorie Ann Powell, 50, Ponca City in Kay County District Court.
Powell is facing a felony charge of DUI of drugs and alcohol filed on Nov. 5. Ponca City police report that officers responded to a report of a hit and run on Oct. 29 near the intersection of 14th street and Bradley. A witness told police a SUV hit the back of another SUV and continued south on 14th Street. The witness followed the suspect vehicle until police caught up with it.
Sgt. Dana Fisher reports he stopped the suspect vehicle and that Powell was identified as the driver.
Fisher reports Powell stated she left the accident because she didn’t have a driver’s license and that she had been drinking. A male passenger, Ellis Deckard, was bleeding from the nose.
Deckard reportedly told police he is dating Powell and that the pair were arguing when Powell hit him in the nose. Police report Powell failed a sobriety test and that she was in possession of Gabapentin.
She was booked in the county jail and bond set at $50,000. On Jan. 3 she waived her right to a preliminary hearing and jury trial and the plea docket is set for Jan. 27.
