PONCA CITY — The Ponca City Aviation Foundation hosted 13 girls from three troops of “all-girl” scout troops at the Ponca City Regional Airport. The group attended a day-long seminar for the BSA Aviation Merit badge.
First Lutheran Church and St Paul’s Methodist Church, both in Ponca City, sponsored troops while the third troop was from Enid.
The girls learned about theory of flight, airports, pilot licenses, aircraft engines and much more about aviation. They built and flew sophisticated model gliders and toured several local airplanes and a airplane restoration project. They also learned first-hand on computer flight simulators what the aircraft controls were for and how they operated in flight. Completion of this seminar will qualify them for the coveted Aviation Merit Badge in scouting.
