Train and tanker collide

KAY-NOBLE COUNTY LINE — Emergency crews responded to a report of a train—semi accident on Cowboy Road, near the Kay-Noble county line today at 11:30 a.m. Ponca City fire units, Kay County deputies, Oklahoma Highway patrol, Marland Fire Department and Ranch Drive fire units responded.

Crews were still on scene of the accident as of 2:30 p.m. The driver of the semi was transported to Alliance Health. Joe Sloan, public relations spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, said no none of the members of the train crew were injured.


Sloan said he was informed that a hazmat contractor is present at the site because of the contents the tanker truck was transporting. Sara Stewart, spokesperson for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said troopers are still on scene and that a representative of the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has responded because the Cross Transportation, tanker was reportedly transporting red diesel.
