PONCA CITY — Based on recommendations from an Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health (OSDMH) Suicide Prevention Expert, the Ponca City School district is offering “Healing After Suicide in a School Community: Helping Parents Help Their Kids” training.

The district is working closely with this expert and the OSDMH to offer healing and support for staff, parents, and students. As recommended the district provided training to staff members on Sept. 16.  The next steps are to offer training to parents in November, and student training will be offered in classroom settings in January.

PCPS District Therapist Kirk Hollis will present the recommended training designed for parents, guardians, or other adults. Each training session should last about an hour with time for questions. The district will offer the training the week of Nov. 18.
