Kassen sentenced with credit for time served

NEWKIRK — Joel Benjamin Kassen appeared in Kay County District Court this week for sentencing on a conspiracy charge.

Kassen was convicted by jury of conspiracy on Oct. 25 and acquitted of second degree murder.

The jury recommended five years in prison.
District attorney Brian Hermanson requested Kassen be sentenced with out credit for time served. Kassen’s attorney Thomas Griesedieck requested Kassen be given credit for time served.
Judge David Bandy sentenced Kassen to five years with credit for time served. The court also ordered incarceration be capped in the amount of $1,000.
