Bond for shooting suspect reduced

NEWKIRK — Bond for accused shooting suspect Kyle Lamone Hawkins, 33, New Iberia, La. has been decreased since he was booked in the Kay County Detention Center on Sept. 9.

Hawkins is accused of shooting at a vehicle on Interstate 35 near Braman on Aug. 28. (See story)
Originally bond was set at $250,000 and was later increased to $1 million. On Oct. 4 a status docket was held for Hawkins.

Attorney Don Smitherman requested Hawkins be released on own recognizance bond. The court denied the request but agreed to reduce bond to $300,000. A second status docket for Hawkins is set for Dec. 13.
