SHAWNEE — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is reporting that Ponca City resident Harvey Pruett, 81, was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday at 10:07 p.m. on U.S. 177 northwest of Westech Road, located four miles northwest of Shawnee in Pottawatomie County.

Troopers report a 1998 flatbed wrecker was parked in the roadway to divert traffic from a previous collision that had occurred.
The trailer was blocking the roadway when Pruett, who was driving a 1995 Ford 250, struck the trailer. He was pinned in the vehicle for 30 minutes. Officials pronounced Pruett dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City, by Alpha & Omega Funeral Home.
Troopers are investigating the cause of the collision and the condition of Pruett when he struck the trailer, and whether or not he was using a seatbelt.
