NEWKIRK — A status docket is set for Brooklyn Dale Stewart, 28, Ponca City, in Kay County District Court on Nov. 1.
Stewart was arrested by Ponca City police on Aug. 10 and later charged with a felony count of assault and battery upon a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.
Police report Stewart was arrested at Lola’s Bar and transported to the Ponca City Jail by Sgt. Dana Fisher. Upon arrival, Cpl. Tristan Fitzsimmons reports hearing screaming and went to assist Fisher. After a dispatcher searched Stewart, she reportedly threatened to break the officer’s body cam. Police report she started swinging her arms at the officer. Officer Stetson Sisco reportedly grabbed her arms and pulled them behind her.
Officers attempted to place Stewart in a cell when she lunged forward and grabbed the cell door as it was closing. Officers stepped in front of the door and tried to push Stewart out of the way of the door. She reportedly lost her balance and fell forward, hitting her right eye on the wall in front of the cell. Police report she said “Ow!”
In a second case filed on July 24, Stewart is facing a felony charge of child neglect and two misdemeanor drug charges. (see story)
On Aug. 27, Judge David Wilkie agreed to release Stewart on an own recognizance bond upon the condition she participate in substance abuse services. The district attorney’s office objected.
