NEWKIRK — An initial appearance is set in Kay County District Court on Aug. 16 for Shawna Dawn Campbell, 27, Ponca City, who is charged with a felony count of child abuse or in the alternative child endangerment.
Ponca City police report in the affidavit that Campbell is accused of giving birth to a child who tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamines and THC. Officer Kisen Sharp reports that during an interview, Campbell reportedly admitted to using marijuana and cough medicine because of a condition she was diagnosed with. She reportedly told the officer is trying to obtain a medical marijuana card. According to jail records she turned herself in on the charge on Aug. 3 and is free on an own recognizance bond.
