NEWKIRK — Tuesday’s preliminary hearing scheduled for William Bear Overland, 21, Ponca City, is reset for Sept. 9 in Kay County District Court.
Overland is facing a second degree murder charge in the beating death of 20-year-old Brittney Kayleen Adams. (See story)
He has been confined to the Kay County Detention Center since his arrest. On June 27 two felony counts of injuring a public building was filed against Overland.
Kevin Main, deputy director of the jail, reports in the affidavit that Overland is accused of activating the sprinkler system in a housing area on April 16. Main reports the water soaked eight bedding mats and Overland was placed in isolation. On April 17, Main reports the sprinkler system in isolation sounded and that video shows Overland climbing into the toilet-sink fixture and using a paper towel to pop the sprinkler.
Overland is set to appear in court on the new charges July 3.
